Shane Carwin

Shane Bannister Carwin〔(MIXED MARTIAL ARTS SHOW RESULTS. DATE: May 24, 2008 LOCATION: MGM Grand Garden Arena, Las Vegas ). State Of Nevada. Retrieved on 2012-06-13.〕 (born January 4, 1975) is a retired American mixed martial artist who competed in the Heavyweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship. He is a former UFC Interim Heavyweight Champion.
==Background==
Carwin and his two brothers were raised by his mother, who had the goal of getting all her sons college educations. He started wrestling when he was 6 years old. He received a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the Colorado School of Mines as well as a bachelor's degree in environmental technology from Western State College.
Carwin wrestled in college, becoming a two-time NCAA Division II Wrestling National Runner-Up as a Heavyweight in 1996–97 and the NCAA II Wrestling Heavyweight National Champion in 1999. He was also a two-time All-American in football for Western State and was chosen to participate in the Senior Bowl.
